A tough-to-guess yet memorable password is an important part of keeping your Descript account secure, but sometimes a password can be a little too good. If you've forgotten yours, or just think it's a time for a change, you can easily reset your password.
Getting Started
If you're currently signed out of Descript, open the Descript application and click Sign in to Descript. You will be redirected from the desktop application to your web browser Sign-in page. Alternatively you can navigate directly to https://web.descript.com in your browser.
Click Don't remember your password? at the bottom of the window.
Enter the email address associated with the account, then press the arrow button to submit.
If the account exists, an email will be sent to the email address with the subject "Reset your password" from no-reply@descript.com. Open it and click the Reset Password button.
You will be redirected back to the browser where you may type a new password into the top box, then re-enter it exactly in the box below to confirm. Your password must be at least 10 characters long, with no more than two identical characters in a row (e.g. "aaa" isn't allowed), and contain at least 3 of the 4 following:
- Lower case letters (a-z)
- Upper case letters (A-Z)
- Numbers (0-9)
- Special characters (e.g. !@#$%^&*
When you've entered the password, click the arrow button to submit. You'll see a screen that says "Your password has been reset successfully".
At this point, you may click the Sign in to Descript button again on the desktop application and enter your updated login credentials.
Resetting the password for an account created with Google OAuth
If you created your account using the Sign Up with Google button, you're using the Google account's login token to automatically log into Descript. In this case, attempting to use the reset password flow will result in an error message (since no username / password was created for your account) stating:
"Could not request password reset email: Cannot reset password for account login type (google-oauth2)"
Instead, please follow Google's password reset process.
