Overview
Descript's Equalizer (EQ) effect allows you to improve the intelligibility of your audio, reduce unwanted background noise, and more. What is EQ? Simply put, an equalizer allows you to boost or cut specific frequency bands in your audio by a specified decibel (dB) level.
Getting Started
Before adding the EQ, you'll want to first open the Track Inspector which is where your EQ settings will be visible. To do so, click the Track Inspector icon on the right-hand sidebar of Descript, or use the Keyboard Shortcut Command + Option + I (MacOS) / Control + Alt + I (Windows).
Adding the Equalizer
You can use the Equalizer effect on either your entire Composition, individual tracks, or multitrack Sequences. To add the Equalizer effect to the entire Composition, click on the Script track then click the + Add effect button in the Track Inspector and select Equalizer.
To add the Equalizer to an individual clip track, click on the clip first, then + Add effect in the Track Inspector.
To add the Equalizer to a Sequence track, right-click on the Sequence and select Edit sequence. Here you can click + Add effect in the Track Inspector, or click on the Track effects button, Add new effect, then Equalizer.
Each slider represents a discrete frequency band in the sound spectrum, ranging from 31.25 hertz (Hz) to the highest supported band of 16 kilohertz (kHz). To make an adjustment, click the slider button and drag left to reduce or right to increase the signal volume at that frequency band.
Equalizer Presets
The Equalizer also comes with pre-configured settings (presets) for you to use. To view these, click on the Ellipsis button at the top-right. Each preset is labeled with a descriptive title for the resulting output. Feel free to try them out to see how they sound, and make your own fine-tuned adjustments.
From the Effect Preset window you can also Disable effect / Enable effect, or Remove effect to remove it permanently. A disabled effect will have a strikethrough and display a red "Off" indicator.
